 Authors present a study of curriculum change at an engineering college within which faculty conceptions and beliefs about teaching were examined, and professional development crafted to address those beliefs.

Almost 90% of participants held "student directing" or "teacher-centered" beliefs at the start of the study. Change agents chose a team-based approach to professional development to focus on altering faculty conceptions of teaching.
